Method

Preheat the Oven
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.
Prepare the Jicama
  1. Peel the jicama using a vegetable peeler, then slice it into thin, fry-shaped pieces—about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. To soften the jicama slightly before baking, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  3. Add the jicama fries and cook for 10 minutes.
  4. Drain and pat dry.
Season the Fries
  1. In a large mixing bowl, toss the jicama fries with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin (if using), salt, and black pepper.
  2. Make sure the fries are evenly coated with the seasonings.
Bake the Fries
  1. Spread the seasoned jicama fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Bake for 35-45 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy on the edges.
Serve
  1. Remove the fries from the oven and garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro.
  2. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, ranch, or the optional garlic yogurt sauce.
  3. Enjoy!

Notes/Advice:

  • Additions/Subtractions:
    • If you prefer a crispier texture, you can bake the fries at a slightly higher temperature (425°F) and keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
    • Jicama has a mild flavor, so don’t be afraid to get creative with seasonings and spices to suit your taste.
    • To make the fries extra crispy, you can finish them off under the broiler for 2-3 minutes after baking.
