Ingredients
Meatballs
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Sauce
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Pasta
- 12 oz spaghetti
- Salt, for boiling water
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, basil, garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
- Shape the meat mixture into small meatballs, approximately 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Once hot, add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Transfer the meatballs to a plate and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another 1 minute.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then add the meatballs back into the sauce. Cover and cook for 25-30 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- To serve, place a portion of spaghetti on a plate, top with meatballs and sauce, and sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
